Margaret's New Home

This is a drawing of Margaret. I think she's an Essex County homesteader; about 1860. I'm feeling a connection to this drawing and am considering it for my 40'' x 40'' big ass painting submission to Nancy John's Gallery show''. I'm feeling like a few things need to appear in the background... possibly a wee, log house with smoke coming out of the chimney, and a field of glorious corn (love our corn fields). I also picture Margaret holding a chicken. Could be interesting. What do you think?

I think she looks great and I love your suggestions for both the background and for what she's holding!

I particularly like the idea of the wee log cabin...you could have some washing handing on a line too :-) (I like washing in pictures...I have no idea why but I do!)

She's lovely - can't wait to see the embellishments added in.

Thanks Carol for the suggestions. I love laundry hanging on the line too... Saw that in Arbroath when I was there. It was waving in the wind next to the sea. Most residential places in Canada don't allow it. :(

Thanks Jen. I hope I can keep the same feel as the line drawing once the paint is applied.

I'm sure you will only enhance it!

And that certain residential communities don't allow laundry hanging out gives me high blood pressure. I too think it's beautiful, I LOVE hanging my own clothes on the line (and can't anymore since I'm in a condo now), and don't even get me started about how such stupid rules promote environmental stupidity... I don't think such rules can sustain lawfulness too much longer.
